Sidney Velo began staging a road race in the Mill Bay-Shawnigan Lake-Cobble Hill area in 2010 after our long-time (1993-2009) race course at Deep Cove on the Saanich Peninsula was lost due to increasing traffic, which made it unsafe to race. The 2010-17 races were part of the B.C. Masters Cycling Association race series for riders 30+ years of age. The races were Australian pursuits, in which older riders got a head start over younger riders, enabling all riders to compete for overall victory, as well as in 5-year age groups. The race was cancelled in 2018 and in 2019 the Victoria Cycling League race format of A, B, and C ability-based groups was adopted. 2020 was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, resuming in 2021 as a VCL race, after which Sidney Velo stopped staging the race due to the retirement of the race organizer.
